Christmas, New Years and a personal tragedy summed the last few months, but now I'm back on track excited to get back in the studio and get inspired by and passionate about music. It is with that goal in mind that I am offering one song for one dollar recording. Preproduction, recording, mixing, mastering. Take it as a tryout, or an opportunity to have some fun, or whatever but there are no strings attached. Call, email, or fill out the form on the contact page. I look forward to hearing from you!

My hands are covered in paint as I write this. My lovely wife and I have undetaken an impromtu studio renovation. It's mainly paint and lights, but I think it will make a big difference for my self and my clients. There is just something about a space's atmosphere that can't be taken for granted... I'm finally acting on it. I'll post some pics here and on the Facebook page. Stay tuned for the after pics. Or better yet, stop by and lets record a thing or two.

You're probably listening to them now... Alice Newton and Nick Gee just added to the WAP Media Player on the left. Nick successfully released "What You Want is What You Need" at The Cottage Bistro last month and Alice is playing regular gigs in Whistler and should have CD's available for sale by the fall; having said that, keep your eye out for a digital download in the not so distant future.

Two wonderful projects should be making their way from the WAP studio to your eager ears very soon. Nick Gee's debut EP will be released July 15th at The Cottage Bistro on Main and Alice Newton's highly anticipated demo should be available very soon. Be sure to check back in June for a chance to hear both CD's right here.

Christmas is over, New Years too, even Vancouver 2010 has come and gone... Waking Alone Productions has been pretty quiet for a bit. Aside from Soupy LaRue's tracks, I've just been messing around a bit and doing some work on Nick Gee's EP. However, this month we're going to kick it into high gear... I'm offering 10% - 25% off bookings made in March! Also, Look forward to news on Mike McDonald and Ranj Singh in the coming months...
There are some videos on the Pics & Vids section of some post production work I did a few years back...

Keeping my nose to the grindstone: working with Nick and Alice and talking with Mike McDonald regarding an EP in the new year...

Again, If you don't follow me on twitter than you've have missed out on 2 weeks of discounted recording at WAP. November 1st until January 1st, record for $25/hr or $250/day. @wakingalone
Went to 3 shows last week. Ranj Singh and the Discriminators played a great show to a small but enthusiastic crowd at Cafe du Soleil. Along with Melissa Endean in her first outting as a band. I was a little dissapointed with Melissa's set as it seemed to lack the sparkle and personality I have seen in previous shows... I don't know if it was the band configuration or the new material from the album, but it left me wanting more. On Thursday, I took a step outside my usual perusals and saw Helios play at Radha Yoga and Eatery. An interesting blend of acoustic and electronic ambient chill music accompanied by fuzzy nature pics in a venue where I was more excited about drop in yoga the next morning... Luckily I had some great friends with me and we all had a good time. Plus Antioxidants!
Even better, it looks as though Mike MacDonald of Whistler Battle of the Bands fame will be embarking on an album project with WAP in December/January so keep your eyes and ears open...

If you follow me on Twitter or Facebook, you may have already read some of my comments (gushing) about Oh Winnipeg! I must say I was surprised by how professional and smooth the entire production went. I'll be honest, when I heard "one man musical memoirs" I pictured John on a stool, playing some tunes and chatting, with some well produced audio accompaniment. I was very surprised at how a simple staging of 3 chairs, 3 guitars and some simple props created numerous and convincing places and times. The entire show rested on John's shoulders and as a first time actor and playwright he did amazingly well. He was comfortable and easy on stage and he showed great dicipline while playing 4 or 5 characters throughout the show. We didn't miss the supporting cast, the interactions with imaginary characters were truthful and heartfelt. No awkward goofs or cheese, just great theatre great music and great storytelling. Honestly, go see it. It will make you smile...

Peak Performance Showcase 1 of ?. TEA and Sweetheart.
I only caught a bit of TEA's set it sounded mellow and good. Really Good. Tight bass, crisp drums, great vocals... it sounded almost pre-recorded but still had the live energy to it. They obviously just have there sound dailed in.
After a bit of technical difficulty, Sweetheart turned it to eleven and power/pop/punk'd their die-hard fans into a frenzy. Marty, the lead singer, showed off some excellent vocal control during a epic rock melody which ranged from The Hip to Rush which ended up being the highlight for me. The rest of the show was typical for the genre: entertaining, loud and fun but no real big surprises.
PS Some artsy Studio picks are viewable in the pics section more meat and potatoes pictures as they become available...

Ellen Taylor's Demo is finished and sounding fantastic! Nick Gee's EP is coming along very nicely... There may two albums on the horizon for Me and old WAP-y here! I just bought a house ( read newer, bigger studio) and I'm getting married next week... That's why it's been so long with no update. Peace!

Waking Alone Productions now has a Facebook page. Go do whatever it is you Facebookers do...
Goodnight.

Well well well... Here I am again, Late. I am now working with Ellen Taylor on a few un-demos. I call them un-demos because they are going to sound wicked sweet but they are too few to be an EP. Also, I've been working with John Pippus. In addition to his busy singer/songwriter life, he runs the music at Trees Organic Coffee House on Thursday and Friday nights. There are some great musicians down there on a weekly basis. If you play there, you just might get a coupon for Waking Alone Productions in your goodie bag. I'm thinking of getting a couple of WAP t-shirts made... random, I know... This summer looks like it may get busy yet. Too bad it gets rather warm in the studio but you know what they say, "Warm Rooms get Warm Tones." I don't know if anyone has ever actually said that, but I like it!

Damn, almost a month with no post. I'm slacking. Anyways, I just got back from judging the Sea to Sky Battle of the Bands up in Whistler. There is a pretty great scene up there! I was quite surprised by the talent and diversity at the contest. There was a soloist and band category and the winners were Dani Quayle and a great new band called The Tell Tales. As the solo category winner, Dani will have a demo produced here at WAP so keep you eys and ears open for her in the coming weeks.

I bought Marianas Trench's new album "Masterpiece Theatre" and it is absolutely awesome. Josh has really outdone himself on this record. Pick it up. pick it up. pick it up... Anyways, I discussed some things with John Pippus today and I think Waking Alone Productions may develop a great relationship with the Trees Organic Coffee House performance nights. We'll see how this all develops.

Well, I have to be quick because it's Earth Hour in 45 minutes and I have to turn off the Comp... Last week I recorded an audition video for a talented young flutist named Patrick Callegaro. Everything turned out great and I think he will soon be off to Western University studying music and such. Yesterday, I met with Mackenzie Brown and Tobi of the "Tomorrow Next Days" to discuss the possibility of a recording in the next little while. They are a very talented group and I'm sure that anything we did together would knock your socks off. Stay Tuned...

I sat in on the mastering session for Matthew McCully's record today at Suite Sound Labs. Boy is it going to sound awesome. I am going to an orchestral rehearsal tonight as well. I want to get a read on how everything sounds before I record it tomorrow. Also, it seems I will be working with Larry Lechner again on his new project "We Found a Lovebird." April promises to be a month of killer mobile recording and churches.... Go figure.
03/09/2009
This week has consisted of a flurry of activity at Waking Alone Productions. I have spent the last 5 days integrating the new DAW into the studio, hand wiring a patch bay, custom building an equipment rack and doing some new acoustical treatments. Matthew McCully's debut record will be off for mastering any day now and I am about to record a school audition. Go figure. On the flip side, Ken's project has once again hit a bump in the road... Hopefully we'll be back up and running soon; delivering the hard hitting 4WARD EP everyone has been waiting for.
PS I am going to try and write something every week from now on... See if anybody cares :)
02/28/2009
Well, Matthew's album is all but done. A few mix notes to take care of and mastering and we're good to go. Expect to see it by mid March. After a unexpected delay in 4WARD's production schedule, we are back on track we've turned our album into an EP but it will rock your socks... We are working with a pretty quick time table here as well: The end of April is the deadline, so it will be fast and furious for the next few months.
01/11/2009
I just purchased a brand new Studio Computer. It's got all of the latest and greatest processor and memory technology. I won't bore you with the details... Suffice to say, smoother, sexier overdubs and bigger, badder mixes.

There are actually videos in the Pics & Vids section! Check them out!

Long time no update... But here goes: 4WARD is coming along very nicely with the single "Rock Your World" Flying up the charts on ReverbNation.com and the rest of the record is on schedule and sounding Awesome. I've got nothing but good things to say.
A If that weren't enough, I am now working with Matthew McCully on his debut full-length album we are 12 wonderful songs in and beginning to narrow. The record promises to not to disappoint...

WakingAloneProductions.com has undergone a bit of an overhaul. Basically, I got tired of the old look, had some time, and here's the result of a few hours work... Enjoy

02/05/2008
Ken Parent has decided that WAP is a good fit for 4WARD's album. We are currently in the tracking phase of the record. Also, phibble.com, an online radio broadcast out of Idaho, has taken quite an interest in Ken, so be sure to check out the "Rockumentary" when it airs....
